Conservatives are finally caring about bias in institutional systems... Once it affects them

How many conservatives are on the data science team? How many conservatives are on the responsible and ethical AI team?
This is kind of wild. A whole TV show generated on the fly by AI. It never ends! One time it actually told a joke with a punchline too

I like this take because it excuses me from thinking street photography is boring. In 50 years it will be cool

My opinion: Proper classic street photography is not about how clever the photographer is, it's about life amidst streets. Street photography is something you take today and put away. 30 years later it reveals its magic. Mundane shots become interesting. Trick shots lose value.

So the only way we'll hold police accountable is if they're black

A sixth Memphis cop has been 'relieved of duty' after the brutal murder of Tyre Nichols. He's the one white officer, Preston Hemphill. And he's only been put on leave after massive public outcry. The five Black cops weren't relieved of duty, they were charged with murder.

it’s pretty remarkable how switching from beef to pork/chicken reduces carbon emissions far more than going from pork/chicken to vegetarian

My wife just had to schedule an appointment with the person who schedules appointments so she can get her doctor's appointment scheduled. No wonder American healthcare is so ridiculously expensive. Your job should be a BUTTON

It is sad, but it also shows how the AI market is effectively inaccessible to any small startup that doesn't have millions to spend training their own models

This has nothing to do with AI and everything to do with incompetent startups eschewing even the most basic security practices

TIL. Just used prompt injection to read out the secret OpenAI API key of a very well known GPT-3 application. In essence, whenever parts of the returned response from GPT-3 is executed directly, e.g. using eval() in Python, malicious user can basically execute arbitrary code 🤯.

Basically you can write server-side functions that act as "views" into thr database and automatically subscribe and notify when the underlying data changes. Many times I have wished for that in Firebase! Let's hope their security rules aren't so brittle/inflexible as well

I think a small Japanese lady politely saying "endlessly accumulating things instead of trying to find joy is a poor, hollow way to live your life" is like a declaration of war against the ideological underpinnings of the entire United States of America

The medley mode where it transitions to different types of music could be a really interesting new genre of AI-created music. And being able to hum a melody and then have it generated into any instrumentation you like is huge for trying out ideas

whoa, this is bigger than ChatGPT to me. google almost solved music generation, i'd say. google-research.github.io/seanet/musiclm

This is kind of amazing that the "secret sauce" that made Google Docs, Figma, etc so successful is now just an open source library you can add to any project

Try out a sample app I built this evening in just a couple of hours — internet-moods.fly.dev yjs is incredibly productive for building collaborative apps because it gives you common js types like string, array, map but every mutation is instantly synced. It's magic.

We were having a discussion at work today about if AI can create novel art. I think that has been answered here. I've never seen a human coming up with these awesome designs

Sometimes there are single decisions that completely destroy a company. 's decision to remove SMS support from is definitely one of them. RIP to a really important app for the future of privacy and security

I've been in a few strategic mapping workshops, making opportunity maps or risk maps, having a virtual room (in VR?) where one can see what each other are doing and collaborate would be much more immersive than the 2D Figma board or whatever.

Really curious what a #wardleymaps "map room" could look like interconnected.org/home/2023/01/2
