There are many complexities to the Israel-Palestine conflict but there is also one simple fact which I pray Israel will recognise before it's too late:- You cannot rule over 4 million people against their will, indefinitely - at least you cannot do it without losing your soul.

Thanks for all your good wishes re my retirement present. Let add that my old supervisor John Crook 40+ years ago gave me the money to get my PhD thesis typed. I asked how to pay him back. 'Do it for for someone else one day!' he replied.

I struggle for an analogy. This is like: it's September 1939, and a minister stands up and says "Right. That's it. No more sales of arms to Germany"

I have no problem with ministers meeting business leaders - I would worry if they didn't - but the fact that ministers met Shell, BP & Total between them 30 times & the government's own Climate Change Committee just 3 times rings a lot of alarm bells.

Very moving listening to 2 women one Palestinian trapped in Gaza suffering daily bombardments & the other an Israeli mother also afraid. Both deserve to live in peace not in a war zone. #

On World Press Freedom Day, remembering journalists all around the world who put themselves at risk to report the news. Particualr thoughts are with brave journalists in Zimbabwe who face harrasment, imprisonment and worse for reporting the truth.

Rather than moan about it, maybe it might be worth looking at why the Conservatives are doing so well in some parts of the country and come up with alternative policies the electorate could support? A start would be by not claiming that anyone voting Tory is an idiot.

Thankful that these two young women have been released. They should never have been arrested in the first place.
