i wish more programmers focused on developing their social skills both on and offline
i think that’s a popular trope but sells programmers short, makes for an easy cop out for poorly behaving ones

True, but programmers are still rewarded & can be considered highly successful despite not playing nicely or possessing social finesse. Unfortunately, tech values good code > being nice. It’s a trope that prevails b/c companies still reward the former & allow it to continue.

at least on my end I'm starting to see a sea change and I'm still pushing for the end of "smart jerks". if we let that attitude remain then the industry will continue to both build systems without empathy and systematically build without empathy
