I'd like to apologize for this tweet. It's mean-spirited gatekeeping, and is hurtful and detrimental to the Sourdough community. Saying this was a mistake, and I don't really believe that I deserve access to flour more than anyone else. 1/nhttps://mobile.twitter.com/jeremyrsmith/status/1261800644878364672 …

I was tempted to double-down on this tweet and convince myself that anyone who was offended was just too sensitive and was looking for a reason to be offended. To lash out at those who may have pointed out the harm it could do. 2/n

But, I think that for the good of the community, I need to own up to the mistake, apologize for it, and recognize that it's harmful to beginners that may feel excluded. Doubling down would only start a cycle of escalation which would harm to the entire community. 3/n

Even if I believe my actions otherwise show that my heart is in the right place wrt the community, I still want to make it clear that I regret the tweet and I'd like to do what I can to make amends to anyone who felt harmed by it. Dialog is welcome with open arms. 4/n

I know some of my supporters will be disappointed, because they really do hold this opinion. But to be honest, it's better to disappoint them than allow this to escalate further. Maybe owning this mistake will even change a few minds. 5/n
