There are some downsides to working from home. Distractions are gone, but so are the useful interactions w/ colleagues. OOTH these days I'm surprisingly happier as I spent more time w/ family. Once back to normal, I'm looking forward to working 3 days from office, 2 from home.

I did this for a year. It was nice, but it doesn't free you to live in your home city, or follow a partner's less flexible job. I hope this is available for those who want it, but I hope it's not a compromise that makes full remote work scarce.

in the Before Times, i'd go in to a coworking space shared with fellow remote colleagues about once a week to break the monotony and see other humans

You miss in-person collaboration with coworkers on business problems, but gain collaboration with a wider network on what other people are doing, tool tips, etc. This cross-pollination can be great. I love OSS for similar reasons.
