yea. they call it kaeshi, which is short for nikaeshi (reboiled) see also ribollita (reboiled soup with old bread)

Sounds like the solera system that they use for making Sherry. I just saw a documentary on the chef at Pujol in Mexico City who does that with mole … it keeps going for years, he just keeps adding to it.
