I can't look at all of them, but I don't think any of these individual studies provides proof that that's true, there are lots of other studies that have observed that there are almost no nutritional deficiencies in most vegetarians and that in fact most vegetarians are healthier

Healthier than whom? The general population that eats junk food? See, that's not a fact. There are indeed the 7th day adventists studies, however all that shows is that veganism doesn't kill you, otherwise all you're seeing there is the "healthy user bias"

From one of your citations: vegetarians typically have lower bmi, serum total and ldl chol. levels, and blood pressure; reduced rates of death from ischemic heart disease; and decreased incidence of hypertension, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers than nonvegetarians.

I too am just a software engineer, and likely a far worse one than you are
, so what do I know, but that sounds unambiguously healthier to me?1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

And it's a good thing you're questioning my bullshit dude
And no, both you and Luka are right — it's not unambiguous. Which is my whole point. I'm bothered by proposed policy changes (lets all switch to vegan) without considering everything, plus fixing lower hanging fruits.2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

I don't disagree, I think for the environment the best thing to do is cut out beef and dairy, they are without a doubt the worst offenders and they produce a lot of methane which is about 30 times more potent a green house gas compared to CO2

Exactly! A lot of people, when hearing they should be eating less meat, they hear "go vegan". Which is nonsense, of course. We'd be in a far better position if everyone in industrialized countries would cut back 50% of their meat intake, without necessarily going vegan.

> cut back 50% of their meat intake You do know that the biggest problem we have is that we throw away something like, what, 40% of food? If we want to cut back on meat production, maybe we should throw less of it away. There are plenty of lower hanging fruits to fix first.
