tried to revive my rye starter twice now and both times it smells foul as shit (like vomit and not the normal fermenting fruit ~> acetone smell)
time to start from scratch again...
yeah I probably should have dehydrated it more and froze it or something. i do my starters in glass mason jars anyhow. i wanted to keep the continuity going :(

yep not too much water is important... if there is dark liquid accumulating on top, it means you put too much water in it but in general just remove this liquid and the surface of the yeast and it's ok... not too dry or it dies too...
