As a nonnative English speaker, I still struggle with some words despite living in the US for fifteen years. Reading this thread not only made me laugh but also feel less alone and self-conscious. Solidarity

I've basically stopped speaking Russian after multiple people had commented on it. With my parents I just substitute Dutch/English as needed
-
Oh. That's sad. I still talk because fuck people. TBH sadly people when I was fluent used to say I can't speak Greek well but only after they found out I'm not "100% Cypriot". Racism is a strong drug.
-
Uh that's annoying. No regrets about Russian, don't have many great memories / feel like I belong anyway
-
Sorry and glad/hope you do now! I know what that's like. It was very tricky growing up for me because I was always confused, bullies, and didn't really fit in or feel accepted. I counted down the days till I could move to the UK thinking it would be more accepting of me.

-
Yeah it was similar for me and it was a long journey but I'm all good now
your experience in the UK doesn't sound as welcoming as it could have been though
