my feeling is that we have more than enough opinion pieces on reproducibility. what we need is more theoretical work to understand what it is/does, what it means for science, etc. that’s why i work on it anyway. opinions are given too much credit.http://www.pnas.org/content/115/20/5042 …

Oh, dear. My brain hurts processing that.

lol. i took it as a misunderstanding about what theory is.

in some ways I do think theories are just opinions. What did you think of mine? humans are ultimately selfish, any sustainable program needs to be both in the best interest of the individual and the group. use the internet, team up, make it valuable :D

I would disagree on the opinion part, given I use ‘theory’ in a more formal way. And I’m not sure if theories should make normative statements or prescribe what should be done. That’s ultimately a value judgment. I am agnostic in this case.

btw, right? i find it curious why more people don’t seem concerned about all the assumptions we make about reproducibility and scientific progress. there’s so much unknown. we need a solid basis for validation before we start shouting “reform” imho.
