Other will disagree with me — but if you are asking about me personally, my use and preferences: I prefer to use gender for everything that others also use sex for and sex for the act of sex.

Intersex people, of which there are many with great voices on Twitter, often don't consider themselves trans but I bet they also would dislike being labelled by gender-/sex-related words they do not identify with.
