Ok, that is clear but can it be (asking because I don't know) that they are separated? Such as some one that has sex A, gender B but does not consider themselves trans?
-
No, because I cannot think of a case wherein that would not be misgendering. Sex and gender are both constructs humans have created. If you want to know if somebody has a vagina or penis or neither you can ask about genitals.
-
Again, the point is to include preset independent variable. sex, gender, can both be presets to be used at the discretion of any given researcher. We don't have to make choices here other than to include them in the list of presets. >

I'm trying to be inclusive by including the options. Please, this is not intended as a socio-political debate. Just, please, what options should we include so as to be as inclusive as possible.
-
@Abebab roped you in for your opinion on this. trying very hard to create a science tool that is representative of the human experience. sex/gender and race/ethnic origin are both hornets nests. you're an ethicist. need your opinion so we get it right. -
we debated whether to just create blank spaces for independent variables as specified by each researcher, but feared this would simply perpetuate the problems we already have.
-
I'm confused — I can't tell if my perspective was or wasn't asked for. Either way, best of luck regardless and I'm always open to dialogue.
-
hi darlin' yes, your perspective was requested. but it was likely my fault in not being clear. I wanted lists of possible IVs to include. And you did help with that. Did not realise your were responding to
@twitemp1 My mistake. - 13 more replies
