Memories. My first political action was marching against the junta. At 17, I was beginning to learn that the USA was not the beacon of democracy shown in the movies.
It's interesting how they don't really teach us any of that in school except to play the recording of the radio station run by students during the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athens_Polytechnic_uprising … — hell of a way to traumatise children.
History is written by the victors. -Winston Churchill
Who were the victors? It's not clear cut in this case. The junta definitely were/are losers & their coup against Makarios lost them a great deal, but are Greek Cypriots who do/did this to me and others winners? I posit "no". Not even in their own eyes since the TRNC bothers them.
I mean the American people. Their version of history is what's being taught in schools.
Which schools do you mean?
Middle and high school, mostly. I was never taught about the various coups and installations of leaders of other countries backed by the US. I'm not very well versed on it as others are, I'm still trying to learn everything I can, so forgive me if I overstep in my exxample.
I'm Cypriot so I was very confused by your comment because I don't see things from the USAmerican perspective.
