Then when I was at university, my parents received a letter saying if I wanted to apply for Cypriot citizenship. My parents said no (I was in the UK) on my behalf as at the time it would have meant carrying out civil defense obligations.

Recently, the law changed and I am now actually eligible for a passport and merely have to go and register my details and apply. Cypriot citizenship is not patrilineal anymore and I am welcomed to purchase a Cypriot passport if I so wish.
