I don't understand people outside modelling who directly/indirectly state/imply computational modelling is easy. It's offensive in and of itself to say something one hasn't even really tried is superficially doable plus it's patently wrong about this specific type of work.

.What I find frustrating is when people dismiss modelling in favour of haphazard gut predictions which is ultimately based on some loose understanding of a system... which is actually a model of some kind. Just without the explicit accounting of assumptions and inputs.

Agree, and this also makes their 'model' untestable.

Untestable is such a great word. Really captures what I love about modelling: you can test your assumptions (in an extra way — not just empirically).
