That kid would be better off doing heavy front squats and deadlifts than plyometrics https://twitter.com/vhutaliii/status/973924719669010433 …

Given how rare growth-plate fractures are from weightlifting versus high impact sports, I'd bet it's much safer. But don't know of any solid studies

Agree, don't think there's any benefits from added weights. The jumping has coordination+prediction training gains (plus if you only lift weights, you learn odd motion planning programs--completely anecdotal and based on ppl with lifting experience trying a high +DEX activity.)
-
Parens sounds disparaging but I didn't mean it that way. My experience that in general, ppl who trained weights only, compared to others, moved without taking advantage of the full degrees of freedom available to them. Think, maybe cz lots short bursty motion & importance of form?

Try do do a barefoot front squat with your bodyweight on the bar and get back to me about range of motion
-
That's not what I mean by range. I used to help teach beginner bboys & bgirls. We usually advised against lifting. You're stronger bt you're also heavier. Your time was better spent on harder, learning to coordinate uncommon movements & fine tuning your internal model of yourself
-
Pattern was, more serious lifters also moved more "stiffly" at first or quit more readily Don't think any activity is superior and depends on your goals. As long as you're safe, enjoy it and careful against injury, the health gains, camaraderie and enjoyment are all that matters.
