Holy shit! I had no idea this was just in Cyprus! So I guess in Greek it's διδακτορικό, only?

Never heard it used! So chair and and τσαέρα are not related and it's actually from chaise?
-
It’s admittedly old, if not medieval. Though see this: http://acerasanthropophorum.blogspot.com/2011/01/blog-post_25.html … Chair and τσαέρα *are* related, but not in the way commonly thought: they both derive from Old French chaiere, which later became chaise.

Gotcha. My brother discovered λαφαζάνης is from Ottoman Turkish lafazanler, which apparently a lot of people found very amusing when he used it in Ankara. So yes, I guess I need to bear in mind all the influences are going to be Ancient/Mediaeval.

(Amusing because it's so archaic.)
