Oh, and I did get told off for taking them. The sentry soldier there was not happy.
But I've grown up on an island with UNFICYP, Greek army, Republic of Cyprus Army, Turkish Army and British Army. So soldiers aren't exactly something I'm that scared of. Or rather I am rationally scared, as a Greek Cypriot I know having a UK passport is useful.
