I know a lot of weird things that are utterly unacceptable and in some cases illegal happened to us back when I was at school... But OMG I just remembered the teachers used to have a smoking room? A room just for them to smoke in? So cool how norms change.

Brave or stupid

I quit actually out of solidarity with my (then to be) wife and in support of our wish to not smoke anymore when we would have kids. I decided this on the evening of my 29th birthday (having smoked since 16 or so), and quit cold turkey the same day.

I quit cold turkey too but your story is amazing.

Was it hard too? I really experienced it as excrutiatingly hard, and also psychologically dissociating.
-
It was very easy, but I have always been this way with smoking.

Smoking shisha hours on the weekend then nothing for months etc, for example. So finally I just said, OK, enough. When I quit I had been smoking non-stop for 6 months 5-6 cigs per day.

I see. My wife was more like that, quit sometimes then started, then quit etc, not being as dependent as I was. I basically chain smoked for 10+ years (pack/day or shag tobacco). Then I quit. *bam* My body had to catch up with what my mind had decided, so to say. No notice.

Same here. Quitting had a strong effect body and mind. How easy was to lit one and relax! But then guilt is a stronger force!
