TBF English has quite a few of these. As soon as I remember what they are called I can Google a list of them. 😅

I really love: "Fast" as an adjective or adverb can mean "without moving; fixed in place", as in "holding fast" (also as in "steadfast"), or it can mean "moving quickly."[2][8]

And: "Left" can mean "remain" or "leave" ("He left the room" or "He was the last one left in the room")

And also: "Off" can mean "activated" / "beginning to make a noise" (e.g. "The alarm went off") or "deactivated" / "ceasing operation" (e.g. "The alarm turned off by itself").

Now imagine arriving at York without never having spoken English in your life (just reading very specific academic papers)

Both of them were quite noticeable and they were always at the pubs, one working outside, the other being nasty to all. If you would have met them you would remember them
