I prob eat a half a /whole chocolate bar on some days/weeks but I would not share that in the context of shaming others. I do eat crisps too. Sugar-related health problems are real.https://twitter.com/bjfr/status/960583543029207041 …

Olivia Guest | Ολίβια Γκεστ @o_guestNot withstanding, I prob do work many long hours on some days/weeks but I would not share that in the context of shaming others. I do take weekends off. I do take a few hours off to exercise. I do believe in rest and that work doesn't require the office always. Burnout is real.Show this thread1 reply 1 retweet 2 likesShow this thread -
Where
@o_guest is totally correct: Work 80h/ week as a PI ok. But make sure your students / team know they don’t have to. There are times when you need to put in extra hours (eg at the beginning of a new project, ie me now). Then take days off. Relax. No1 thinks well when tired.1 reply 1 retweet 3 likesShow this thread -

Yes! Also not everybody/not all students want to be PIs!

That’s certainly true. But there should be space / students should know there is place for PIs with larger teaching load and appropriately smaller but still present, quality research; used to be quite popular in the UK, don’t know how it is now.

At UCL you can now become a professor just with teaching duties.

And what a great job that must be; teaching RM2 at UCL during my PhD was pretty rewarding.
