Ultimately I got into a pretty nasty fight with the friend and cut off contact. Shitty, I know. If we can't engage and debate with those so close to us, what hope is there to ever reach across larger divides? I dunno.

It makes me a bit sad that, I tweeted essentially about the need to actually listen to women, people of color, and I got actual scientists tweeting back at me about genitals and stuff. Just goes to show, science training =/= understanding these issues.

My point is that we should listen to people regardless to gender and skin color. That's all. It's used to go without saying once. The idea of looking for guidance based on such a things is ludicrous in my opinion.

The fact that I said 'we should listen to women [about these issues]' and you heard 'we should listen to people with a certain set of genitals' is pretty disappointing. I'm talking about experience, and seeking out a diversity of views.
-
Also, I feel kind of dumb for the [about these issues] as it really doesn't convey my point, but I can try to clarify if needed.
