On a related and more serious note, it's my experience that many ocurances of people demanding scientific evidence where it does not hold, are not (necessarily) cases of scientism but of misunderstanding.

I know I've done that, e.g., overinterpreting what someone says to be a general claim instead of a personal observation. Straw men everywhere.
