I looked at the link and suddenly realised I had no idea what a voronoi diagram actually was and then suddenly I realised it was super simple and now i feel like a turnip

No! I'm not sure turnip is appropriate!
Also that's true for many basic ML alogs that people ignore in favour of the trendy hype-y ones, at least in my experience.
