this is why i only use 3rd party clients to read twitter: i still get a chronological timeline.

Recommend me one?

I'm all about @twitterific, but it's iOS/mac only, and I know you use linux. Not sure what that app landscape looks like.
-
Ah, fair! I wonder why (on android app) it's not rendering the account you just
@ed as a link... Weird. -
Oh, cause I messed it up:
@Twitterrific -
I'll check it out on my macbook when it returns from apple care.

-
Cool! There's also
@tweetbot which has more features, but I like the focus (and lack of some notifications) from Twitterrific. -
I'll check them both out.

My favourite part is when twitter emails me about things. If only they had some other method of sending me notifications...
-
I've disabled all of those, but yeah, I suppose they are worried you don't log in enough.

-
Facebook's worse. It's needy. I haven't even looked at Facebook in 2 years and it seems like the longer I ignore it, the more emails it likes to send me. "Hey, look at what [so-and-so] posted! [What's-his-face] said this! [What's-her-name] made a video!"
-
I definitely have everything from Facebook disabled. What's really interesting is I was at some point in a special class of users because of how much I used it. I would get these obviously "elite user" targeted emails.

Same. I managed to turn it off for some, but not all, of my accounts. Why, Twitter, why.
-
Is there an off switch?
-
Under settings, I was somewhat able to stop the "highlights" notifications as well as tweets on my TL from people I don't follow.
-
Sorry that I can't be more specific right now, on phone.
-
Thank you! I'll rummage around!

Yeah, it's the beginning of moving to a Facebook style algorithm-only feed. And it sucks. Will eventually be what drives me to quit Twitter.
-
Not sure this is what could make me quit, but I think it's irritating.

I'm not too fussed by the retweets but I really don't like the fact your likes are public. Makes me hesitant to like certain things that I don't agree with (but want to bookmark). PS the irony of course being I saw this because someone else liked it...
