We have them here in California now too. They were never here when I was a kid and I remember seeing pictures and thinking they were so much cooler than blackbirds. (my grandfather was a bird guy)

Although we do have Redwing and Trixie blackbirds which I always felt were very exotic.

Amusingly, I've never consciously seen a Common grackle (I visited CA before I knew about them). I've seen the Mexican grackle, the Carib grackle, and the boat-tailed. The infamous Common grackle that
