Ugh I am so sick of romanticizing people into idols. Talk about their work, yes, but the whole concept of an idol is so misleading and helps noone.

Perhaps it’s important to draw the distinction between role models and idols/great men here. I may have confounded the terms. The latter seems the problematic one to me because it dehumanizes the person by erasing all potential faults, shortcomings, biases, etc. Otoh role model>>
