We, as a society, aren't talking enough about the solutions available so children don't grow up to be predators, so nobody thinks it's OK to abuse others, so nobody turns a blind eye to harassment/grooming. Also work events must have codes of conduct and promote professionalism.https://twitter.com/businessinsider/status/942834749223198725 …

No, we are not talking/doing enough at all. We need to realise that abuse takes many forms and that to effectively prevent it, we need to be able to identify and understand them with a real honest and non-partisan approach. I believe, that is the most difficult task we are facing

IMHO: We need to realise that a list of bad people in the present is not enough. We need to actively stop and educate people. Codes of conduct, for example, stop things happening and create an environment that teaches people explicitly and implicitly what is acceptable.

Yeap, education is paramount and for that we need to create a helpful environment.👍

We also need to be careful not to privilege the education of abusers over the needs of victims/survivors. They are not mutually exclusive of course but the safety of everybody should be above the need to educate specifically the worst of us.

Agree, victims must always be the priority.

I also think that environments are really important. Nobody really is 100% genetically pre-determined to be an abuser, our society creates them. We must manage to create a society in which harassing others is not OK and not ignored. *sigh*

Yes, perhaps we all need to stop ignoring the little abuses around us, pointing them out and demanding correction. 🙄 If only!

Yeah, although that's exhausting and difficult like you say. But I do agree — we need something like nudge-theory but for not being abusive, I guess.
