well.. you should.. but you can do without if you eat a protein-rich meal after the workout plus some simple sugars straight after to reduce the damage.

Yeah, I almost always (can't think of exception) eat a well-rounded meal within the hour. Do you think that's OK?

They say there's a 30min window of super-absorbtion where you can help your muscles recover and grow better if you eat then. That's why shakes are good, as they're instantaneous.
