Well, we have a neutral gender in Spanish so in theory it would not be needed, but it is the same as the masculine most of the time, so ppl get confused

I think that's the point in Greek too. And indeed in English. "Guys" is a masculine used as a default. Hence primes male.

Ah, well, fair enough. My experiences with people saying I'm difficult have been in the context of them disagreeing with my views. But I'm glad you don't disagree. It's nice to know.
