I’m not trying to be argumentative but isn’t this a product of the old game: women need to be physically attractive, men do not, they are providers?

Yeah, exactly. Valuing people for their external appearance over other traits is the definition of shallowness.
-
This figure here shows that women are overwhelmingly more likely to value personality over appearance. Making men comparatively more shallow. https://d25d2506sfb94s.cloudfront.net/cumulus_uploads/inlineimage/2017-11-16/Looks%20vs%20personality%20global%20BOTH-01.png …

"However, it should be noted that in all of these countries (and, indeed, all countries surveyed) women are still much more likely to rate a partner’s personality, sense of humour and intelligence as a more important attribute than wealth." Women are less shallow. QED
-
Yes, but interpretation can be a double-edged sword. I agree with your view, o/c, but it could be argued that the reason is that in order to be a “good partner” men have to be “more” than women who are only required to be physically attractive
-
That's not what the data says though as men also value personality quite a lot, just not as much as woman. There are, like you say though, other interpretations. For example, you could argue women value personality more because they are scared of men and seek out ones less likely
-
to be abusive. Another one is that none of the data is reflective of anybody's true preferences but only what is socially acceptable to admit. Another interpretation is that men have created a system which for them is meritocratic (personality-based) but for women arguably isn't.

Yes, of course you have expressed it much better than what I could have ever done. Driving down to London in a bit, sorry to cut the convo short

Indian blokes seem to be decent chaps. And the Scandinavians but they may be just afraid to say.
-
I noticed that neither the Danes nor the Swedes gave a toss about income. Props.
-
That's probably because they have like 90% of women in workforce. If I was bashing this kinda cash I wouldn't care either.
-
"bashing this kinda cash" is my new favourite expression!
-
it is definitely mine in first person singular present tense...
-
Me too, only its just this sad little roll of dimes

Explain to me why appreciation of physical attributes is more shallow than appreciation of a perceived 'personality'. Thank you. I've been wondering about this.
