Surely at a baseline any kind of data needs to have application/ clinical utility. As I work with CYPs, any data or reports I use are done in a way that service users and lay ppl can understand. Making data accessible is a skill in itself!

Ok, hope you're sitting down. Compared to my post doc years it has increased in daily volume by a factor of 10 with a huge drop in SNR

But there are really cool positions where you don't have to do too much admin right? Although rare I remember
@DuncanAstle got something like this. But still people sometimes have to go on sabbatical just to have time to write up papers rather than answering emails@neuro_boffin -
There are a small number of really amazing people who have tenured research-only professorships in certain places (e.g. Ghent is one that offers these), but these are extremely rare. Next best thing is a fellowship, and then buy out on an ERC (or other grant).

So you can find such position but they are rare. Great shame! I've heard other stories of people spending time in business and investing and then returning to academia after "making a fortune" and simply doing research with no teaching as they do not get paid by the institutionpic.twitter.com/HKZG4ITu2x
