I've explained this quite a few times on Twitter and had this discussion with quite a few people. @zerdeve is also from a very sexist country and knows this pattern. It's obvious to women what's going on if they get a chance to step back. Women are not driven by random choices...

My argument, if anything was exactly the opposite. That women in the West have no other (default) choice but to do female-gendered stuff which is usually not STEM.

Saying somebody has no other choice but to do X, exactly means that X was not a choice.

I think you'd find that in high performing school districts (economic privileged) our schools look more like Euro schools.
