But thank you all/both for the help so far! I've managed so much in so little time because of all your help.

So to check I'm on the right track here... setup.py is a way of installing stuff using pip or like telling pip how to install your module?

Or something! And I need to fill it in so pip can do pip magic?

yep! setup.py is the Python-standard way of indicating how to install stuff.

Generally you don't use pip with setup.py though (unless you `pip install -e .`) pip is more for installing other peoples' packages.

If you want to allow other people to install your package with pip though, then you need a setup.py (but not for normal development).

I'm confused. I thought that is exactly why setup.py was being discussed here — because I need to make one for my package?

we use setup.py for development. I personally use `python setup.py build_ext -i` to build ext modules etc.
