One of the best lessons I learned from Twitter (@LindaSkitka) is to remove all "Previous research showed..." It makes a HUGE difference!!https://twitter.com/StefanKertesz/status/912811740202721280 …

Agreed -- 100%
It is nice to read that it has been agreed upon by the three of us. *hides*
My grad advisor hates using "we" cause it sounded too egoistic so my writing ended up using too much passive voice. Trying to change this.
I actually — sorry to say! — have had to un-brainwash myself many times in my life. A noteworthy one was unlearning PhD writing habits.
Another noteworthy one was realising punctuation rules in English are very different to what I learned at (Greek) school as a child.
I'm still learning punctuation rules all the time hahahahah better to keep sentences short to avoid making these mistakes

Agreed! Love reviewing articles written in the active voice. It's a myth that scientific writing requires 3rd person passive style
Examples of good/bad pubs on this dimension? Would love examples for teaching purposes
You think I'm going to shame another scientist's writing style on Twitter?
But how to avoid passive if you are a single author? "I conducted..." sounds strange.
Not for me to tell you want to do. You can use any voice or style. But if you mean what I use personally, yes, I would say "I".
Also to be clear, I said "reduce" — not "eliminate". But, yes I do use "I" when it is just me, e.g.:https://thewinnower.com/papers/4825-crisis-in-what-exactly …
