Can't remember (lots of crossover enrollment), but in any case school culture is tough. Also saw lots of stus burn out/quit by midterms...
grades was just a competition for my parents to one-up other parents. This hasn't changed. Although I've cut them out significantly.

It's very cultural and it's quite harmful. I have no idea what the USA is like but Cyprus is extremely socially competitive.

I feel like in the UK people are allowed to be themselves way more and parents love them unequivocally. Not conditional on certain traits.

For example it's not that unusual for people to say, esp fathers, "I two 2 children and one daughter".

So yeah culture really affects you. In my case I eventually realised if I work hard in the UK I won't need to be sent back.
