I wish I could press a button & everybody who's coding (so all) in my lab would use version control (ideally git) & an open source language.

That makes lot of sense. I struggled to get some folks beyond uploading PowerPoints and word files. But at least I then had them in 1 place

That's true. I'm not against them uploading binary files but they need to realise what that does. Importantly everybody is doing modelling

but nobody except me (I think!) uses version control... It's upsetting as they could be working in a safer way.

Yeah. That's a tough one. Never come across anyone who really adopted safe practices without having experienced a catastrophic failure

Me? I'm pretty sure I started using git because it made sense not because I lost anything.

I wonder whether that comes from the way you came to/think about coding? ie that 'made sense' comes from a mental model not widely shared?

I think I've seen a big difference btwn those who came to version control via coding then applied elsewhere vs applying first to 'files'
