Yeah, I received these lovely messages from a senior male colleague in my field after I received tenure. I reported his behavior to my associate dean and faculty relations and was told this wasn't "sexual harassment;" he only did this to provoke me, I was his "muse."pic.twitter.com/KYBPBbytoP
What he wrote is plain fowl and reprehensible! Faculties response is absurd & irresponsible! It is sexual harassment! So sorry.
It so common sadly. So so many cases coming out. The only silver lining is that they ARE finally coming out.https://www.wired.com/story/the-university-of-rochester-sexual-harassment-case-is-complicatedand-thats-the-point/ …
I would argue so so few of the cases I know about have come out.
That's depressing. I know a lot and by coming out I mean in private, sadly like you say in public almost none.
In fact one of the more disturbing ones I know I wish would come out... Cos half the people I work with know and the other half don't and it
is really irritating when some victims aren't clear cut and others obviously so but people are misreading etc etc.
I sometimes used to gaslight myself, or I guess block stuff out, to make it easier to cope with being surrounded by perpetrators but also
by people who claim to be anti abuse but sadly can't see what's in front of them for various reasons.
This is why we should never assume or vouch for people being safe without knowing for sure. That means actually having that discussion etc.
I'm lucky enough to be somewhere very very safe. But mislead people standing up for abusers at other institutions is commonplace.
