Either way, I see my future as a scientist as being much more (financially) stable than my life was, growing up
-
-
Like there's definitely some tough demands and expectations with this career but even just a stable income is fucking brilliant
-
Like yeah maybe it is only a 3 year contract but that's 3 years of knowing when and how much I'm gonna be paid and 3 years to plan
-
There are a lot of really shitty 1 year contracts. But it's better than so much else. Yep.
-
I see tons of lucrative lab jobs in middle America at hospitals I'm talking 50/hr+++ but you won't catch out there in nazi land

-
The context here is people of poor backgrounds commenting on how privileged people are complaining about their income

The context is not people of poor backgrounds saying that the career path they chose is perfect and rosy and great for everyone

-
I know exactly what they are doing. It's a kind of financial negging. It's a kind of class negging. And even a kind of racism occasionally.
-
Western privilege is a really strong drug.

at the end of the month.

this is only great income if you have no one to depend on you. i don't see how a phd can afford a kid, for example
-
If we're being honest I'm not sure how ANYONE affords a kid.
-
I don't see how a postdoc can afford a kid. It's tough.
