Essentially outsourcing the reviewing to other staff/postdocs around the world
-
-
Most people I know do nothing like this during phd, it's sad.
-
because it's assumed that phd students can't provide high quality reviews. i'd object if the stud has no papers (or drafts) in subject area
-
Exactly...
-
i was taught to write test cases where i expect that if my program has a bug, it would show.

it wasn't my supervisors I think but a mentor (then postdoc) who invited me and another student to review. I had already published by then
-
Yeah I've heard of this. I think I wrote the review myself but I did discuss it a bit
-
Glad to hear some were better trained during their PhD than I was. I had to spend a few years compensating.
-
were there other things too? I've missed out on others, like planning/lab notebook etc, just wasn't a thing in the lab I guess
-
We have researcher development courses for that
-
I'm sure we had courses, but since everyone (including me) thought I was organized, it never came up :P [See http://www.veronikach.com/shadow-cv/7-things-i-wish-i-had-done-during-my-phd/ …]
