To add: I do get the emotional response. I have/had it. But rationally, this is how open science is supposed to work.
Although I would suggest if you want to limit others' analyses or publication of analyses it's more prudent to release after publication.

The situation here was people with an effect of menstrual cycle on attractiveness that we don't get in a much larger sample.

As others have said, we made it public so Imfair enough that they went looking for their effect in our data.

It's not there, but I was surprised to learn they are writing up including our data for publication.

As other have said, we made it open prior to publication so that's on us.

Been putting all my data online ahead of submission but going to pause that and think it through. Might be better to wait for acceptance.

Yeah, you are right. If you didn't want them to write up analyses of your data before you published your analyses, you could have waited.
