Ph.D. advisors who don't teach students to write cover letters for journals, and punchy abstracts when they have good work... I see you!

Seriously, an abstract is probably the most important part of a paper (from a writing quality perspective).
-
How many advisors have those skills?
-
Most do at my uni and these I'm thinking of do. They just don't teach.
-
The ones I'm thinking of aren't at UCL tho. Just to be clear.
-
I'm in the states. It seems like writing is a lost art even in academia here.
-
But I see a lot of academics picking up the importance as a skill even in the sciences. That's good.
-
I try really hard to write gripping and simple prose.
-
Well written research is just so much more persuasive and informative.

Oh dear that is very poor indeed. It's in the top 5 must-teach/must-learn.
-
It really REALLY is.
-
what's the other four?
-
the first three are all about coffee: finding the nearest coffee machine, making sure it is good coffee, drinking lots of that coffee.
-
the fifth one is how to cope with the coffee shakes
