Basically it's become "industry standard" for lab equipment software drivers to control complex custom experimental systems

Nearly everything the big optics companies sells comes with Labview drivers, which is good.

But Labview itself is like playing 'Pictionary' with the devil! Very frustrating at times. Minor bugs can be hard to identify and fix.
