Cool, but is this really an illusion? I'd say it's just the brain doing what it's supposed to do.
Well, yes, it is the brain doing what it's supposed to do, but this does create a non-veridical percept in this manipulated situation
Within the context of the scene, the percept is correct. I'd say it would be an illusion if we'd perceive all cars as having the same size.
This phenomenon only shows that we can read 2D projections of 3D scenes correctly.
More fundamentally, it illustrates that our perception is active and inferential, not just passive propagation of info from periphery
This is why 2D images are sinful and unnatural. Only look at the 3D world. *hides*
