I do wonder if things like code academy are better than formal training. I found formal computing courses to suck

The formal courses were just intense and horrible - "you have 3 hours to complete all these tasks" - is not the way to teach coding

My compsci bsc was excellent in terms of the programming. Other stuff like support not so much. But the teaching in bsc? Perfect.

That's not to say I think teaching of coding in general is good, bad stuff out there. @swcarpentry & @Codecademy — I've heard good things.
