Oh my gosh, got very jokingly told off/owned — "do I look that old?!" — for offering the non-seat butt-rest thing to an older man.

I remember my dad getting home at some point after turning 60, furious that he was offered a seat on the bus.

He'll get used to not being 20 anymore at some point. I agree that it's better to offer and be declined, for the reasons you mentioned.

I don't mind the age that much. I just sometimes miss being able to pull an all-nighter without feeling crap for the rest of the week
