Making an argument a bit less extreme could be more helpful. Shit happens but it is at the tails of a distribution.

Useful (underline that) explanations need to address most cases. Tails are near outliers, they exist; they are the most dangerous cases but

Probably if ppl want to see each others point of view, common ground is key. And extremes may be less likely part of shared experience.

Totally agree. I can't tell if the extreme was the thing I said about black people getting shot by police. The sad truth is it's not rare.
