Wait — I'm confused. Are you the person writing it?

Yes, I wrote it to remind a friend of the event (the "elephant" guy)

OK. I think I'm a little confused on a higher level too. What changed? And why were you doing socibiology?

What has changed is the way people interacted. Let's call it freedom to be rude (at equal level). Particularly lecturer-student.

I see a lot of pretty extreme rudeness often, esp at my previous job and at conferences. Maybe you just moved to a nicer institution?

I like some level of rudeness provided that is done at the same level, i.e. no power abuse. Was York nicer? Dunno what do you think?

I think the phrase "women can't code" and "Olivia is stupid" was a 1-2 times per week occurrence. There were only 5 women in 100 men in CS.

Townspeople spat at me once for talking on my phone to my mum along with throwing the phrase "Fuck off back to Poland" at me.

Within the uni it was also a bit of a nightmare, I was sick all the time pretty much as I was coping with new germs, new everything.

I wasn't ever offered any support on any level including support offered the overseas students because I was here on a British passport.

I felt incredibly depressed without any emotional or otherwise support from anybody — so all in all, I hated York if I'm going to be honest.

So yeah, to answer your question, I think I survived York, but I certainly didn't like it.
