      it depends on your field i guess. i think most of the postdocs in our lab know matlab and that's it.

          i think in some labs you get by without programming, just knowing how to use spss. (which is a disadvantage in the long-term)

          (because a phd is training and if you look at postdoc ads they require that very often so you are more competitive)
