I don't know who the people involved in the situation Justin describes are, but I know of most of those involved in the node core situation.

Is it as bad as it seems from the outside?
-
yup
but there are a lot of good people who are working very hard to improve and address things in various ways -
I think some of the core group, the npm folks, ayo, and the most prolific package developers are among the best I've seen in any community…
-
…at prioritising diversity and inclusion, creating strong, safe sub-communities and spaces, and valuing people over code. But…
-
…node itself has some serious organisational and governance stuff to sort out.
-
And I can imagine a lot of the regular JS crowd is representative of the worst of tech toxicity. I don't go near those people & spaces tho.
-
It goes without saying that there are some people in node core who need to go as well. I think that's all being urgently worked out now.
